Educational Technology Reflection

1. Discuss the disparity in educational technology advancement in schools of industrialized Fist World country (such as the U.S., England, Japan, Singapore, Australia) and a developing country, namely the Philippines.

The schools of industrial First country have the advantage in terms of modern technologies being used by them in their education. The above mentioned countries use the most common source of information which is the internet. Every student in the other countries have their own PC or Laptops for online education wherein they need not go to school but instead they will stay at home and just answer those questions or test being e-mailed by their teachers. Unlike here in the Philippines we are behind of the advancement of the modern technologies to be use in our educational system. That's why some of the schools go back to the traditional teaching process especially those in the rural areas. There is really a disparity of the First countries and our very own country which is still developing. In this globally competitive world an individual should also go with the flow so one will not be left behind. And Education is an important component of any nation’s development process especially when it comes to educational technologies. The schools of industrial First country (such as the U.S., England, Japan, Singapore, Australia) are the most progressive country in the world, however, Philippines is still a developing country because there are many experimenting with such technologies and related programs to expand educational opportunities for their populations .

2.  Given the lack of resources in our rural areas in the Phil. What media can still be used for effective learning in schools?

Visual aids, graphs, close test, mimeograph can still are used for effective learning. The teacher, himself, must be creative, resourceful and initiative enough in developing and using the said traditional media in order to catch the learners' attention and be able to learn out of it. Transfer of learning is very important and can be obtained with the used of instructional materials even a traditional one. “What matter is that the teacher is effective enough to make and present it to his students?"  You can even let the students go out of the classroom and go to the actual object.  For example, you are discussing about the parts of the leaves.  You can go to the garden of the school and discuss there.

3.  Computer shops are pervasive around schools, but these are mainly used for playing games. Without judging on the possibly dehumanizing effects to excessive computer game habits, how can a learner best use computer resources as they may be available in schools or at home.

The learner should use the computer for information needed on their assignment or homework.  They can use the internet and surf for much information on all subject.  They should use the computer as a kind of library from which they can get references.  They should regard the computer as a kind of library.  So instead of going to the library you can just use the computer and internet. "A learner must have self-discipline of course. Playing games is not bad at all, excessive hours in playing games is the bad aspect. Parents should play great roles in guiding and monitoring their children in using the computer. Parents as well as teachers won't allow installing harsh computer games in personal computer but encourage only those friendly knowledge-based games. Set time limit also in using the computer.”
